Yes I had a strombecker track (this was before Carrera was affordable, Artin was available and years before Scalextric Sport).
It is large enough for 1/24 scale cars so it would make a good drag strip. It can often be found rather inexpensively too. I think some of their track utilized aluminum for the power rails and later on steel was used - yes the steel can be very rusty and have poor connections. Most sets I've found that are cheap have a lot of curves with only a few straight sections, the outer and half curves are difficult to find. The American vintage slot car tracks by Revell, Monogram and Strombecker are very good but they are old and there can be issues such as rust. I think that you'd be better off getting new track, Carrera or Artin, unless you already have found enough straight track to get. Hope this helps. |

Yes, it helped alot. Didnt even think about it being aluminum. Will have to email the seller on that one. He has all strights for me. 50 feet total. Thanks for
the help...

My drag track is Strombecker as well....

As long as you have the tin plated steel railed track, rather than the earlier glued on aluminum strip rails mentioned above, the Strommie track is perfect for
a drag strip. I sold roughly 400 feet of Strombecker track a couple years ago when I switched to Artin, but kept 55 straights for a drag strip. The TrakMate
timing system is also a good one for a home track. For $119 it's a lot cheaper than any other I found.
I now finally have the space for the drag strip and hope to get it started before summer. If you need help on how to clean dirty, oxidized, or rusty rails, let me know via email. I had been runnoing on Strombecker track since 1966, so I have some amount of experience on what to do and not to do. One thing I'll say for sure...DO NOT USE STEEL WOOL TO CLEAN TRACK RAILS!!!!! You can NEVER get all of the steel fibers out, and they can be picked up by motor magnets and cause shorts. dennis djl211@yahoo.com |

a question for the seller....
|
In addition to asking if the track has steel rails, ask what the dates imprinted on the underside of the track are.
If it says 1966 or 1968, it's fine (those years are steels rails, for sure). Again, if you have more questions or need help with any Strombecker track, please feel free to send me email. dennis djl211@yahoo.com |
