I just used a piece of scrap MDF for this, no presice measuring either.
I routed the the slot, then the braid recess, and then I added two extra slots about an 1/8" deep to the outer edges of the braid recess. In these slots I pressed in 1/8" steel welding rod. I am sure it will be no problem to bend the rod around a curve also. Then if I was actully building a track I would cover the rods with the braid, Might work for tape also,
Seems to have less grip than my carrera track since the rods are buried a little deeper in the surface than the rails on a plastic track, but there is more grip than my magna braid routed oval. Actually I am thinking it might be just about right, not to much and just enough to go fast.
Should only need to do it before entance for braking, though it and then a little ways out of the corner.
