But even though Herbie looks like he's seen better days, he race ready with a strong motor, new braids, and new rear tires.

I was excited when Steve @ Tiny Motors announced that he was repopping the Eldon VW in resin. I've been wanting to do an Eldon Herbie 'the love
bug'. As a kid I was a big Herbie fan. When the resin VW fianally was in my hands, I found it everything I had expected from Tiny Motors, very sharp
details, no air holes, very little flash. So I started Herbie, unfortunately, when painting, the little bugger fell off my paint stand and rolled through
layers of paint dust from previous paint jobs, I had been meaning to clean that up. There is Herbie with fresh paint covered with paint dust, so I put him in
some 91% Alcohol maybe that will take off the paint and dust. Well here is a tip don't put your resin bodies in the alcohol, they will warp. I took
Herbie out of the alcohol before too much damage was done and let him set. Once dry, I sanded him down and gave him another coat of white. I decided to
finish the little Bug anyway and give him a rusty worn look. Then I thought what a concept, a pre-worn finish, wear from racin' and wreckin' will just
blend in.
But even though Herbie looks like he's seen better days, he race ready with a strong motor, new braids, and new rear tires.

Wow. I guess I'll have to put in the instructions. Do Not Drop Your Freshly Painted Body.
But I will mention in the new instruction sheets not to use alcohol as a paint remover. Some one else did that with a Galaxie that Dave makes.
Tiny Motors your source for replacement tires, 1/32 body kits and restoration parts! |

(http://homeracingworld.yuku.com/topic/14595 is where the results of mine can be viewed.) Again, great job with Herbie and great save. Patrick |

Steve, good call! I watched Herbie Fully Loaded with Lindsay Lohan and Herbie looked pretty beat up and rusted at the beginning of the movie. I kinda wanted to
do Herbie as he appeared later in the movie when he raced NASCAR, maybe next time.
