Did you just recently upgrade to IE8? If you did, you have to go through and get all your settings straight. If that ain't it, give it a day or two.
It's the web, you know.

What MOTS said. Works fine on all computers here, Tiger. I did update it yesterday!

I realize this is getting off topic but, I too am having difficulty seeing all of Chuck's site and, yes, I did recently upgrade to IE8. Any tips on
getting it to work. I've adjusted my security settings. What else should we look at?

WHY do people refuse to stop using internet exploder??? Do they get a thrill from all the spyware and malware it allows in??? Does a slow computer make you
happy??? Has no-one figured out MS just wants to keep taking your hard earned money??? And if it's not MS taking your money it's your computer repair
guy for cleaning up your PC....... like Rickard said - firefox

I agree to a point, but one does not have to follow the God of MS. There are other ways to control your computer, with MS.

I don't have any problems with IE or MS most of the time. I try to keep Uncle Bill in the lifestyle he's grown accustomed to. Besides, if you are just
depending on MS to cover you candy butt from all the thieves on the net, you're an idgit! Wish I'd have been that little nerdy goofs buddy in High
School and got him some tail once in awhile. I'd be set for life! My question is why is everyone pushing this Firefox stuff? You got stock or something?
And what does it do, or what does MS do, to your computer if you switch? Don't just bark without throwing some bite into it, Matt. Gimme the skinny, or
stay in the pits with the girls!

Well Mots and CJ lets put it like this Firefox is a much more Robust Community Driven browser project that has the advantage of numbers, like the number of
developers and Development hours that go in to a quality product. and due to the community Driven aspect of this project there is no profit margin to cause
shortcuts and problems! and now there are many excellent FREE Choices to replace M$ WINBLOWS

Well, R5, that's a real nice story, and I love the violins in the background, but that still doesn't state any advantages. If I still have to keep all
my extra security suites and other protections, I don't see any reason to switch. It's just another browser at that point.

Yeah, I'd have to agree with MOTS. I don't see an advantage to switching at all. I've had IE for as many years as I can remember having a computer
(except the Tandy color computer days) and have had ZERO problems, ZERO. So everyone talks about how great Firefox is, and it may be great, but if IE gives you
no troubles then there is no advantage. It doesn't slow my computer down and I have always used an antivirus program to keep out spyware and malware so no
biggie there. Don't know. I just had to throw in my one and a half cents because, like MOTS, I'm curious why everyone pushes Firefox.

It plants a bug in the CPU that brainwashes them, Kelly. They become FIREFOX MINONS. They will overcome.

Lots of security bugs are written expressly for IE. You don't get that with a free browser. There are a lot of options these days... Flock, Opera, etc.

Almost ALL viruses, vulnerability scripts and malware are written to take advantage of the MS operating system (if you can call it that) and it's heavily
integrated components such as internet exploder (it didn't get that nickname for nothing).
When 95% of the world runs on it, you'd be a fool to write malware for anything else. Sure, you can keep using IE forever, and may never get bitten, or ever have problems, but the second you do, it'll be due to an MS IE vulnerability - I can guarantee you that. And it's like sitting on a time bomb, you don't know WHEN you just know it WILL happen. Unfortunately, none of you have the ability to foresee when you are about to click a link that sends you to a website with bad code, and by the time you know you have it, your personal information has already been divulged to those that wanted it in the first place. You may say " it won't happen to me" - so did my boss - identity theft at it's best - oh, BTW - once he got bitten - he did stop using IE. The problem with MS is that it's profit driven - just get the product to market so Bill and co. can get even bigger wallets, look at shista - as ms put it - the most secure OS ever! biggest laugh ever more like it - as soon as it hit shelves, MS realized their meager attempts at testing it's security were nothing compared to real world exposure, before they knew it they had a bigger fiasco on their hands than all their prior blunders (and there were many) combined. It made Millenium look like a Ferrari! Industry (which tends to be in bed with MS) even refused to put it on their systems because customers refused to buy the systems! Shista is almost at it's end of life now - soon to be replaced with another wonder child I'm sure judging from their track record, however, to this day - industry and marketplace is refusing it - to this day - you can buy the XP roll back (which is STILL being supported although it's life cycle was supposed to be done before now) - sure - MS finally got to ship with Shista preinstalled but was forced to supply a rollback option - THAT'S how bad their product is. It makes driving an out of warranty car from GM look like a pleasant experience. All you IE users - do me a favor - download this: http://download.cnet.com/...p;subj=dl&tag=button I promise it won't bite you or harm your computer, update it, run a full scan and see what it finds. Then switch to FF or Opera or Safari stop using IE (just delete all the shortcuts to it) and run this program in 2 months time. |

I switched to Fire Fox after hearing a NPR report and interview with the original programmer.
My thinking was if I were to write a virus I would write it for the most popular browser on the web, at the time that was IE 5 I think. Now I continue to use it because of the same reason and it's somewhere in the neighborhood of a MILLION times faster than IE "anything". But, if my guess is right, Fire Fox is now the most popular browser on the web, so it won't be long..... I would not even consider starting up IE if it were not for the web reports created by Ultimate Racer that only work with IE. And yes I have tried to resolve this by working with RT and some idea's of my own. The only way I have found to get by this annoyance is to convert the .html file to .pdf files. which is a pain and does not include internal links. So anyway, Fire Fox rules, those of you who still use IE should have a good reason for it, otherwise your just wasting your time. Joe. |

I use Fire Fox too. I like it better than IE, for all the above mentioned reasons.

Well, I know that I went ahead and gave Matt's suggestion a try. I downloaded the registry optimizer, and it found over 400 errors. Then, it said it would
fix 20 of them for free, BUT....., if I spent $30.00, it would fix them all. I know I could go into anyone's house and find "errors" in their
electrical system, and charge the crap out of you to "fix" them all. I went to remove the downloaded program, and it took over 30 minutes to get rid
of all the crap, with one fatal error session. Thanks, Matt. I'll stay where I'm at!

MOTS - I did not link you to the registry optimizer, I linked you to "malwarebyte's anti malware program". What you did is a classic move that
can get even more spyware onto your system, you did not read the page, you just clicked on what you "THOUGHT" you should click on and ended up
clicking on an advertisement, NOT the download I sent you to - I have no control over that - you do. I highly recommend going back to the link I provided and
clicking the download now (3.4mb) button to get what I recommended, then come back and tell us they are charging you to clean your computer. Oh, BTW -
it'll clean up what the "registry optimizer" left behind as well.... I would not link you to something that will charge you to fix your system.
Unfortunately, too many people make this mistake because they are not inet educated.
If a page says "welcome malwarebytes anti malware users" and you end up downloading and installing a program called "registry optimizer", warning bells should be going off that you might have clicked the wrong link.......... Funny how it always ends up being someone else's fault though......just like the old: "my buddy came over and started surfing porn, now my pc is all messed up!" somehow, "you" standing behind your buddy saying "oh yeah!!!!! get me MORE! More!, I say....." had nothing to do with any of it - it was all the buddy's fault.......
