Still Blue over Fly |

You really don't know what you have till its gone! Fly I know has been discussed but at this time I have been wanting to get a Fly 917 LH not a playboy
version. And it is not a car that is really that available any more! And it took me back to when I could just go online and order what I want and wait for a
new car from Fly! And the price on older models held onto by dealers and bumping up price yes you Electric Dreams makes it a little disappointing! I expect
that from private owners and that's ok but dealers no, list price and some profit not a arm and leg increase! But again I am sad to see these models go and
hope someday someone will start these molds back up!

Fly going under sucks but they will come back better than they were before.
I don't see Electric Dreams prices being any higher than anywhere else. They are right in line. I think what you might be referring to is other online retailers cutting prices. |

Don't really want this to be about price on cars just sad to see the availability on Fly classics going down! But do look at price on 917 LH you will see
what I'm saying! Again this is more about seeing a product I used to love and hate at the same time not being there. Our group wants to do a long tail fly
classic races and getting one at original price hard to find! Now I did get one and it is bought from E.D. But would like to see the company Fly come back
soon!

Something to consider, I don't know if this is the case with E.D. but I buy collections. If I pay more knowing it's a hot car, I will then have to
sell it for more. Just a thought.

Funny. Some folks have cursed Fly since day one. And then whined about Artin about every little thing.
Yep...don't know what you have until it's gone. You can rest easy Brian. Fly will be back.. "They Didn't Say You Couldn't" - Smokey Yunick

I won't miss Fly at all., except for the pretty pictures you guys post with the reviews.
I'd rather have Artin back in the 1/32 business, and available in the US. dennis |

Brian, the prices on the 917 LH aren't associated with Fly going under. The prices on these cars had been creeping higher and higher for quite some time
before Fly closed their doors.
I like cottage cheese. That's why I want to try other dwelling cheeses, too. How about studio apartment cheese? Tent cheese? Mobile home
cheese? Do not eat mobile home cheese in a tornado.

Kurt is right about the Porsche...as well as the other popular cars Fly has made. There's a lot of posts about Fly cars being "dumped" on EBAY
and at some shops, but most of those cars are the ones that weren't the most popular to many.
As to Electric Dreams pricing, they've been doing such for a number of years...though I can't say the cars they bump up are from their own inventory or private purchases - they only do such to cars that have become "collectible"...and which they sold at the original price when first released. No opinion if this is right or wrong, but considering the competition in pricing from EBAY sellers and other shops when a car is released, raising the price to what the market will bear when a popular car is no longer available is sort of a way to counter that. It should be also noted that if you want a Fly Ferrari 250 in "brown" it can be had for $40.00. Back to your wanting a LH - get the Playboy version if it is reasonably priced along with a bottle of 91% alcohol and take a look at Patto's who has a slew of decals for the 917's. Then you can truly be blue over Fly when you put the Gulf decals on one...

How hard would it be to become the Nort American distributor for Artin? We need this product here in the states so how poor would I have to get to make this
happen?

I would try and contact them and see what it would take. I have heard that the initial investment is too steep for many. I am curious on this years Nuremburg show to see what is going on with both Artin and Fly. "They Didn't Say You Couldn't" - Smokey Yunick

The artin let down is also a sore spot with me, I love this track but I am also getting rid of it, if I can, so far no one even gave me an offer for the track
I had to offer so far! Artin was a great way to get started and I am also sad to see it go!!!!

I am blue too...though my bank account is very happy. There was always such "pressure" to have the latest and greatest, keeping up with the Joneses,
man, it's a big reliefe in the grand scheme of things!
But yeah, keep hunting on the forums and ebay - I was lucky enough to pick up the red #3 GT40 for a song from Mr Heller here. Just lucky timing. More will come along. Best of luck. Cheers, Mike PS - The "dirty" white longtail is still available at about as close to retail as you can get...check out that latokacollectibles seller on ebay...he has lots of cars. So too does nicdeals and a couple of other volume sellers. Their listings are 29 day buy it now deals and don't always pop up on the searches... |

To answer the Artin question... any factory in China will ship quantity to the US. If the tooling already exists, (yes for Artin) you then just have to buy a
container load of product. This is usually $14,000 to $22,000 for slot car products. You generally can't mix and match in container loads, although
sometimes that can be negotiated. Then, you have to pick up your container at the port and truck it to your warehouse. Marketing is another story. This
isn't as hard as it sounds, and could be done with a consortium of investors. If 20 people all kicked in a grand each, it's doable. Working with a
larger group is usually problematic. Having said all that, are you interested in Artin cars, or Artin sets?

Not sure if the Artin question was addressed to me, or to the general group.
For me, Artin cars and parts are of more interest than sets at this point. Although, getting friends and family to try slots was a whole lot easier when Artin sets were readily available! I still like the older Artin Porsche and Mercedes cars, as well as the stockers. The DTMs (or whatever the green MGM type cars are called) are fun for certain kit bashes, but with the very sloppy front wheels they don't run as well as the others, IMO. Of course, if they come out with new cars I would be interested in those. The Fly/Artin merger had me excited, as I hoped we'd basically get Artin cars with upgraded running gear, some new models, and perhaps a tad more detailing. The whole package still at a price point of about $30-$35 per car. Hey, I can dream, can't I?
