Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	Tags : None Hi guys, i had built several hard body model kits into slot cars with the now out of production PorTrack hardbody stockers brass chassis. I have had great handling success once i got the wheels at just the right width and added lead weights (or soldered on brass strips) to the chassis bottom. But with the H&R chassis, i have not had such good luck at all. I have terrible hopping problems with these chassis, and bad crown gears(very noisy), and poor braking. I switched the crown gear to other brands (old Cox, new Parma),and that quited things down, but the H&R motor has very little brakes. I clear coated the sticky front tires (good fro rears actually!!) with clear nail polish, but the car still hops badly, and i have a hard time in all turns. So from my testing, the Protrack chassis is far superior. One thing i noticed in comparison is that the Protrack brass chassis is lower to the track than the H&R, so that can be cause for poorer handling of the H&R. Any other comments, suggestions, etc as to how your H&R chassis are performing are welcomed. I really had higher hopes for the H&r chassis, but maybe it is just me? thanks fellas

Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	We race the H&R out here in Arizona and don't seem to have the problems your having. Now we do change the motor only because the motor is so fast and we like to slow them down some. Also the tires have all been in good shape some sanding needed but good, also we change the rear tires to rubber because we don't run glue on our tracks. Now as far as the crown gear,yes change to parma, but I here the H&R is trying to fix this problem, Also remember you can buy a striped down version now and put what you want in the car. So for a low cost chassis I think H&R is a great value! Now if you have success with the protrack that great I have nothing bad to say about that set up, but to keep things even we race similar chassis that keeps thing even and gives us great racing!

We enjoyed using them very much. We did swap out the crown because it was very loud. Switched to Parma and that solved the problem. We race on 5 Carrera tracks and one wood track. Added some silicone to the tires, sanded them and they worked well on both surfaces. The only other change we made was to switch to a Professor Motor motor that had less speed to it because the motor in the chassis kit was way to powerful for the tracks we were racing on. We found out later that adding a 2watt 1 ohm resistor would have solved the too much power probem without the expense of buying new motors. Regards, John Last Edited By: jmsh54 04/05/08 07:33 PM. Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	hi Gene, do you recommend me sanding the rears myself, or should i send them off to be done on a truing machine?? guess i just expected them to be somewhat true......or maybe just too much traction from them??? as the car hops so bad, it deslots in straights under full acceleration.....

This will lower it to where you want it. The gear..yes, it is loud. Swapping to a PARMA will fix this...but so will polishing compound on the original. You already fixed that. Braking...well, I have to say running here and at a commecial track we have no issues there. Brakes work good...or at least good enough. Trick...loosen the bolts and nuts holding the front plate slightly...gives it float at the base. It also needs float on the body as well on commercial style tracks that use glue. It will hop and chatter like a poodle passing a peach pit if you do not give it some float on the body. "They Didn't Say You Couldn't" - Smokey Yunick

Reply Quote More My Recent Posts Message Me Connection Blocking Invite Ignore User's Posts	The body on my Ford wasn't all that loose at the EggBeater and it didn't hop at all on the glued track. I losened the screws but the narrow centered 1/25 body pinched the body mounting plates against the full interior I ran and really stopped it from being able to float the way it should have. Based on the comments I can't help but think there is something out of the ordinary wrong. Owning both H&R and ProTrack brass chassied cars I've yet to have a performance issue that would cause me to claim one was 'far superior' over the other and truth be told my H&R chassis' have all run as good, if not better, than my ProTrack versions. My ProTrack cars certainly do not stop on a dime, couldn't stop on 5 feet of dimes from full throttle and I'd be hard pressed to say my H&R is lacking in the braking department compared to my PT cars. Crown gear noise? I break in my gearing with cam shaft break in grease, if they are noisy or not, although I like a car that I hear on the track. Gives me an audible reference for braking and throttle points not to mention it freaks other drivers out when they realize the sound from my car is catching theirs. It was mentioned that the car deslots under full acceleration going in a straight line and assuming the guide is adjusted to ride in the slot at the proper depth you'd need to have a serious problem, such as a badly bent axle or out of round front rim, to cause that much bounce to pop the guide out. Assuming other things have been verified like making certain the wires aren't binding up the front axle due to being pinched by the body being used, the axles spin freely when turned by hand etc there should be nothing there to produce that bad of a hop. Coating the tires with nail polish is a friction reduction trick but if a wheel or axle is bad then no, less friction isn't going to really matter. You should be able to tell if there is a bent axle or bad wheel just with a visual inspection of the spinning axle. If the wheels seem to be spinning uniformly, and spinning freely it still doesn't explain what would cause your handling issues. How tight are your rear wheels on, do you maybe have an axle spacer on that wasn't cut properly that could be causing a bind? To have that bad of a problem just doesn't make sense... these chassis' are not complicated in design. " If you can't beat em'.... beat ON them!" I haven't tried one of the H&R chassis yet but will sometime this year. I liked the Pro Track except that the motor was too much for my home layout. Kevin K&D Tires
