I am planning to make my first routed track and looking for advice. Ive claimed a bit of space in the garage, approximately the size of 2 4x6ft tables set in
an L (10ft one outer edge, 6ft the other), that Im currently using for a plastic track. I also have a second space down in the barn (table size 16x6) with
plastic track setup that Id use for a second wood track if I enjoy the first.
Ive purchased MDF and copper tape, have the router and router bit, but find myself going back and forth on scope and design. Im a willing, but not talented craftsman
1. Should this first track be considered a pilot track, something small and straightforward to learn technique that would be discarded or given away? I think the layout of Saguaro Park Raceway (you probably passed it on the way to this message) would maybe fit in this category; although Im sure my result would be no where near as elegant and attractive as Arlos.
2. Or, should my first track be something a little more involved? I was thinking about something like the portable track at oldslotracer: www.oldslotracer.com/Portable.html. This would let me try some additional techniques like track joining, overpasses and elevation changes.
Does anyone have any thoughts/recommendations on initial scope or the layouts proposed?
