Hope someone can help. I have a vintage Ungar soldering iron, 3 piece, handle, ceramic heating element & tips. Just bought it off of e-bay, however it did
not have the tips with it . Does anyone know where I can get tips ? Thanks in advance ! Bob

You used to be able to get them from Radio schack when they re-branded that iron. One of the stores might have some old stock.
I'm pretty sure that you can get them from Weller now, but mail order only. I have a link around here somewhere that I'll post as soon as I dig it up.

Bingo! Found it.
Bob, check out these links for the ungar 1/8" thread in tips: http://www.action-electronics.com/unpl.htm http://www.action-electronics.com/unpl.htm#In I don't know how to post a live link on YUKU, so you'll probably have to cut & paste the url into your browser

Greg, Thanks for the info. Looks like that might be the place. Sent them an e-mail to confirm whether or not what they have is what I need. Bob

Hey Bob,
Da Nada. That's what we're here for. Actually I should be thanking you. I've had this link for a while but never ordered. Your post shook my tree & I fell out & ordered a couple of tips. A 1/8" chisel, which has been my old stand by for everything from electronics to brass chassis building for 40 years, and a little finer cone that I will probably grind down even a little finer. I got the clad ones, but even with those, you have to keep them tinned. I thought the price was about a couple of bucks too high, but the last time I bought a new tip was about 20 years ago, so... maybe it's not, especially since you really can't get them anymore, once current inventories are depleted. I love that iron & will be sorry if it ever gives up. It was real popular when Ungar made & sold them. But Ungar got bought by Weller a few years ago and Weller dropped the line. A dumb move in my opinion. Shipping options are (if you just want a couple of tips)are around $13 bucks for UPS, $8.50 for priority mail & $4.25 for regular mail. The resident cheapskate opted for regular mail.

Greg, Do you have the one with the ceramic heater element ? What was the part # for the tips you ordered, was it 6312 ? The part #'s on the elements are
535 & 1235!

Hi Bob,
Ceramic, it is. And hasn't given me any trouble in about 20 years. The tips I ordered were PL331 & PL333. I love the chisle shape for general soldering. The cone tip is probably going to get ground down to a finer taper on the belt sander.

I have an Ungar Ironclad 47 watt tip that I have used since the late sixties. I have built well over a hundred chassis with this one tip and it still works as
well as it did new.
Todays replacement for that tip is the number 33 Ungar/Weller Tip, I have one of these that I have now used for over three years and it works as well as the original tip on my other Iron. :

Hi Bob,
I'm pretty sure they fit. It's just an 1/8" machine screw thread - hope you got the ones with male thread on the tip. I haven't received the ones I ordered yet, so I can't guaranty anything, but the tips are copper, so would be easy to cut new threads on if need be.
