Glue for windows? |
Lead | |
|
What glue do you all use for windows? I tried the Testors glue for windows but wasn't really happy with it. I've been using a glue from Wal-Mart but
was wondering what other people use.

Micro Mark sells a watch crystal cement (not inexpensive - especially with the shipping). You might also be able to find it through local jewelry tool supply
distributors if there are any in your area. I've also heard that there is a non-crazing CA adhesive available, but haven't found a source or tried it.
You could try someplace that sells model or RC planes.
What I use is a PVA glue (similar to Elmer's) but stronger and dries a little more crystal clear. It's called WeldBond, manufactured by Frank T. Ross & Son, Inc. of Toronto, Ontario (www.weldbond.com) It sholud be available at local ACE or True Value Hdw stores, or maybe the Despot. Use a small amount applied with a toothpick. It's white when wet, so you can see where it's slopped... Cleans up with water while wet. Can be scraped with a fingernail when set, but not fully cured. Pretty hard, yet still a little flexible when fully cured. Any way, that's what I use. The only disadvantage is that it takes a while to dry.

O have to agree with the micro mark glue. Best I ever tried. If your ever trying to glue in headlamp lenses like on Ferrari cars its the ONLY glue to use.

I like using GE Clear Silicone II RTV (just like window caulk). This won't fog like Super Glue, it always is flexible so it can take a hit or two in a
crash, and wipes clean with water with no residue. It can be found in any home center or hardware store for around $5.

I use white glue, I get it at hobby lobby for 2 bucks.(eileens tacky glue, a big tube. It's thick so it holds while it's drying.
you can even use future to glue clear parts, it's sticky and very clear. Steve

I use micro scale crystal clear. Easily workable with a toothpick, and dries just that, crystal clear with no residue. Holds strong for racing, but easily
removable to replace damaged parts.
You can also use it to make small windows by 'stretching' it across the gap. Static display models only, or for light racing around the track.
